Video Premiere: ‘Mecsico’
Following the release of their debut EP ‘Yr Unig Rai Sy’n Cofio’, Derw take on a fresh, new sound in chamber-pop anthem ‘Mecsico’.
Originally formed by mother and son duo Anna Georgina and Dafydd Dabson, Derw is fronted by Welsh/Iranian singer songwriter Elin Fouladi and backed by musicians from Zervas & Pepper, Afrocluster and Codewalkers. Released tomorrow via CEG Records, ‘Mecsico’ was written during lockdown and explores the excitement of letting the mind wander during bleak times. Fused together are elements of soul, synth pop and R&B, stirred simultaneously to a fast-paced groove in the wake of a lawless explosion of vocal harmonies and glittering brass.
In Derw’s most ambitious track to-date, Fouldini’s powerhouse vocals delivers the track’s hopeful message: “Ar ôl hyn gawn ni fynd lawr i Mecsico. Hel yr heulwen sy’n tanio ni i adfywio, a’r gobaith pendraw fod 'na enfys ar ôl y glaw”. Accompanying the track is a bespoke video directed by Jamie Panton which combines film, family photos and nostalgic takes of the band’s cathartic live performances.
