Lloyd Steele: “Life is so much freer when you accept yourself”

Last Friday marked Dydd Miwsig Cymru - a day to showcase the very best of Welsh language music - and Côsh delivered just that in Lloyd Stelle’s hypnotic debut-single ‘Mwgwd’.

Despite only opening his solo-project last Friday, Lloyd Steele is a familiar face of the Welsh music scene as he’s played at some of Wales’ biggest stages with his band ‘Y Reu’. But with influences of his own and a taste for music that fuses R&B and pop, Lloyd has replaced gigs with writing during the post-pan era to find a way to express himself in a creative form. Produced by Rich James Roberts of Studio Ferlas, ‘Mwgwd’ boasts a glossy, polished finish with beats that echoes the warm, dreamy tones of Honne, Glass Animals and LANY.

Conjuring a sense of longing in his debut-single, Lloyd explains that ‘Mwgwd’ marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life: “The song is based on being comfortable and confident with your own identity, something I've struggled with in the past. It emphasizes the importance of being yourself, and how life is so much freer when you accept and embrace yourself”. Accompanied with a special video by Lŵp, the single’s introspection is channelled via its stunning cinematography at Garth Pier, Bangor - capturing the narrative of a lonely character who hides his true identity with a metaphoric mask. A sleek and emotive opener, keep your eyes peeled on Recordiau Côsh Records’ latest member, Lloyd Steele.
