Aderyn: “I wanted everything to be dictated by emotion"
Often synonymous with Aderyn is bright, hopeful, jangly pop — however latest single ‘Yearning’ offers a deeper, more intimate connection.
As the faint, gentle beats and the minimally-muted cello provide its elegance, ‘Yearning’ gets its melodramatic tone from the intermittent, howling guitar licks. Layered with her characteristic raw vocals, the track presents Aderyn with a newfound vulnerable edge. Describing the track as an open letter to her crush, the Brecon-born artist explains: “I wrote this song on the floor of my childhood bedroom in lockdown. It is a song that encapsulates the feeling of pining for someone. That exquisite, aching pain. It was the first time I'd felt that way about a girl and is, without doubt, the most vulnerable I've ever been in a song”.
Capturing the track’s sensitivity was always the intention as she adds: “We didn't record to a metronome, and added wailing guitars, sweeping bowed double-bass and an echoey floor-tom that I wanted to sound like a heartbeat. I wanted everything musically to be dictated by emotion, not convention”. Encapsulating the sharp, sweet pain of yearning for someone, Aderyn’s new single is out today via Phwoar and Peace Records.
