FOCUS Wales 2022
FOCUS Wales festival will see over 250+ of the best new music acts from Wales and around the world descend upon Wrexham across 5th – 7th May. With 20 stages and an overall capacity of 20,000, here are five artists not to be missed...
Gwenno
Hoping to catch a glimpse of her introspective third album ‘Tresor’ — released via Heavenly Records on July 1st — Gwenno headlines Central on Thursday 5th May. If the album’s lead single ‘An Stevel Nowydh’ (Yr Ystafell Newydd / The New Room) is anything to go by — a tightly-wound psyche-pop gem — Gwenno’s return to North Wales is not to be missed.
Public Service Broadcasting
Following the release of their Berlin-inspired 4th album ‘Bright Magic’ late in 2021, Public Service Broadcasting will be performing their most ambitious live set to-date. Masters of both concept albums and on-stage visuals, the London-based math-rock band are sure to provide the extravaganza at Llwyn Isaf on Thursday evening.
Self Esteem
Having reached top spot in almost every ‘Album of The Year’ list in 2021, winning ‘BBC Introducing Artist of The Year’, and nominated at the 2022 Brit Awards, Self Esteem make their highly-anticipated debut in Wrexham on Friday 6th May. Performing her acclaimed sophomore album ‘Prioritise Please’, make Rebecca Lucy Taylor your priority at FOCUS.
Kiddus
Of Caribbean, Indian, Filipino and Welsh heritage, Cardiff-based singer/producer Kiddus’ musical offerings are as eclectic as his upbringing as he fuses R&B, afrobeat and drill into an authentic, sonic jigsaw. Explore both his glitchy production and pop-punk vocals at Penny Black on Saturday 7th May.
Luke RV
Currently under-the-radar but ready-to-explode — Luke RV is an alternative hip-hop artist from Neath, South Wales. Lacing his relaxing rhythms with ambient undertones, you’ll need to save a special space for Luke RV on Saturday night (Penny Black, Room 2).
