BERIAN: ‘DSD’
Extracting a minimal sound design that both elevates and entices, ‘DSD’ marks the first release from north Wales producer, BERIAN
Having experimented with a plethora of electronic styles since the age of 14, last Friday saw BERIAN, aka Berian Rhys, release his debut track, ‘DSD’. Bringing his atmospheric sound to the UK garage formula of the late 90s, the twenty year old producer from Nefyn says: "Over the last few years, I've been working on a huge amount of tracks, and I see 'DSD' as the first seed in putting my own mark on the electronic music scene in Wales.”
Now calling Cardiff home, BERIAN's first track leans on producers such as Main Phase, DJ Crisps and Joe Duala for inspiration as he endeavours to craft his own unique style, adding: "I'm looking forward to seeing how the track is received, both digitally and in live settings but the next step for me is to continue to work on the next tracks to come.”
Working with director, Aled Victor, on the visual aspect of the release, the single's artwork, as well as the track-title, is a homage to a sea captain from the Pwllheli area. "For the cover art, I wanted to recreate the hand print that is on the wall outside my family home in north Wales. The letters 'DSD', carved on the wrist, refer to David Seaborne Davies who was a captain born at sea near Nefyn in 1869. His parents built the house and therefore it feels special to be able to include such a personal element in my first release as an artist."
BERIAN's first single, 'DSD', is out now via UNTRO, with its accompanying music video now premiering exclusively on Klust:
