Malan's long-awaited debut EP: Bloom

‘Bloom’, the long-awaited debut EP by Malan, is set to land 13 October via The Playbook

Three years in the making, Malan finally brings forward her debut EP, titled ‘Bloom’. Ever since breakout hits ‘Busy Bee’ and ‘Greed’ first saw light in 2020, Malan has been on an upward trajectory as an artist — quickly gaining traction on both Spotify and BBC Radio 1 — and following the release of ‘Magic’ last Friday, the singer-songwriter is delighted to announce that her brand-new five-track EP arrives this October.

For her latest single, ‘Magic’, Malan joins forces with fellow Welsh artist, meiblio (also / previously known as Ennio The Little Brother). The duo’s creative chemistry lights up the track’s melodic and mystical grooves and is the perfect pre-installment to her forthcoming first EP.

The track was produced and co-written by acclaimed London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist, Nate Williams (Jamiroquai, Steve Winwood, Markus) — something Malan recalls as "a true pleasure". She adds: "He’s an extremely talented musician and I learnt a lot from working with him. It also helps that he’s an all-round lovely person! I couldn’t have asked for a better person to collab with for my debut EP".

Now in her early 20s, Malan's unique vocal stylings and clever songwriting have earned her a passionate fanbase that’s eager for more. With her nu-jazz-influenced vocals and knack for crafting meticulously crafted choruses, Malan continues to establish herself as an exciting new voice, both in Wales and the wider music scene, and with the likes of ‘Picking Petals’, ‘Going Nowhere’ and ‘Magic’ at her disposal, the North Wales-based artist’s evolution is sure to continue as ‘Bloom’ arrives next month.

Influenced by artists such as Cleo Sol, Olivia Dean, and Faye Webster, Malan explains: "The EP tells stories of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, with honesty and depth. Musically, this EP sees me exploring more pop elements than ever before in my music, whilst also staying true to my love of Jazz". ‘Bloom’ arrives 13 October via The Playbook.

Klust is also delighted to debut the stunning accompanying music video for Malan’s latest track, ‘Magic’. Directed and produced by independent filmmaker Aled Victor, catch the video exclusively here:
